Devidian Doors of Doom
by Mark Bloom If you've been paying attention, you may know that the last deck of mine that appeared in WNOHGB (Devidian Nor) featured 8 Devidian Doors... as I don't actually have that many, I started work on a deck that only needed 5. :) I also wanted it to be Romulan based, since I haven't played Romulans since '98 Regionals (and me, a Romulan :) Here's what I've come up with... Enjoy :) Missions (6) The nice thing about Romulans is they can do literally any mission (unless the mission requires a Vorta or Jem'Hadar ;) I'd suggest using Aid Fugitives, then choosing a focused group... if they aren't all Romulan missions, who cares? Modify the deck a bit and add Espionage. Cloaked Mission (Romulus) is a must as the Romulan Headquarters are a must. Sites (2) This gives me the ability to commandeer a Ferengi player's Nor out from under them. Seeds (30) Three Facilities may seem like a little much, but its worth it for the free plays :) Note that if you don't use any Romulan missions, you'll need a Neutral Outpost instead of the standard-issue Romulan Outpost Space-Time Portal (x2) This is my standard issue, except for the Battle Bridge. Usually, I'd avoid it, but with all the battle running around, a little extra protection never hurts. HQ: Secure Homeworld These both go at Romulus, and are an optional first mission. Neither of the artifacts I've included are "musts," but both can be extremely useful. Quark's Isolinear Rods Quark's Rods allow you to force through a download (or force open your Tent with a Tent). It's also quite useful for metagaming during the game. Engage Cloak is great against battle decks, as it forces the opponent to spread their ships out if they want a shot at you. Its Only A Game takes out other fast decks, and you should win before the slower ones set up. :) Hippocratic Oath (x6) Usually, my dilemmas remain just that, mine... but just this once, I'll let you see what my current dilemma set looks like :). Note for tournament play, they should be a bit more varied than that... but with a Yuta here, an Aphasia Device there, and they're set to go. Q's Tent (13) In general, the Tent is a bad thing as it is a slowing influence on the deck. That said, optional downloads really shouldn't be coming from your deck, and its nice to just have the spare cards somewhere... A few notes on the selection of cards: Battle Bridge (13) The main card here is Evasive Maneuvers. It allows you to live through direct contact with a Borg Ship or Cube... a very nice thing. "Crimson Forcefield" is really for emergency use, and for the off chance you might actually damage something with the lofty weapons of the Apnex. Both are highly defensive in nature. Draw (30 - 2) These are the personnel that won't report for free anywhere. Whenever possible, use Devidian Doors to report them. Redundancy and dilemma power were the keys to selecting these personnel. Senator Vreenak These personnel report for free to the Office of the Proconsul. In a pinch, Senator Vreenak will also report to the Office of the Tal Shiar. Lovok These personnel are the Tal Shiar representatives in the deck. Devidian Door (x5) The main engine behind the deck is here. Five Devidian Doors give you extra "free" reports, freeing up the card play for a Kivas Fajo - Collector. Hidden Fighter is yet another way to sneak a card play in for free, as this innocent little interrupt downloads the best ship in the game (aside from the Borg Cube)! Palor Toff allows reuse of either KFC or the Hidden Fighter, or a second. Q's Tent One Tent is the perfect number. Just enough for utility, no temptation for premature usage. It must be saved for that all important use. So that's the deck... here's the strategy behind it... Speed... Speed... Speed... In other words, empty the deck within 6-7 turns... that's 16 personnel and a great ship! Missions should then be no problem. Tools for outplaying skilled opponents are also available (QIR, EC, Phased Cloak, etc.). THIS DECK IS PROVIDED WITHOUT WARRANTY, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED EXCEPT IN STATES OR LOCALITIES WHERE SUCH WARRANTIES ARE GUARANTIED BY LAW. Keep in mind that this deck should be little more than a template for your own... The author has absolutely no knowledge of your local metagame. Attempting to play this deck directly from the preceding decklist may prove hazardous to your health (for one, no missions were included :). Mark 'Neral' Bloom
