Evek's Cardassian Review #32: Madred
by Evek

With Blaze of Glory coming out within the next few days (yeah, right :-Þ), I'm going to "review" (or whatever it is I do here) a card I've been putting off for a while: Madred.

Madred
Non-Aligned Personnel
OFFICER
Command Star
Gul Madred, Cardassian officer in the Obsidian Order.  Specializes in prisoner interrogation. Tortured Jean-Luc Picard time after time in 2369.
Once per turn, may and 1 to Interrogation or
Torture if at your outpost. SECURITY x2
INTEGRITY 1 CUNNING 8 STRENGTH 6

Well, his lore says it all. He "specializes in prisoner interrogation," and "tortured Jean-Luc Picard." That's what Madred here is good for. He's Non-Aligned, so any affiliation can use him, but if we Cardassian players choose to, Madred can be reported for free to Central Command (but if you want to use him to his full potential, seed or build an outpost). Madred is a bit of an oddity, as he is best used by being at an outpost, while most personnel are best used by going out and solving missions. When using Madred, your strategy should be a capture-oriented one, as he was pretty much the first capture-enhancing personnel. Once you get a captive, just let Madred work his magic. He can drain your opponent of up to 10 points if you use Torture, or earn you some points if you use him with Interrogation (just how many depends on how stubborn your opponent is). Madred's other skill is good to have in your crew or away team, as he is one of four (post Blaze) personnel with SECURITY x2. Many dilemmas require SECURITY, and the more SECURITY you have, the better.  The best way to use him would be to keep him in your crew or away team, and drop him off with your captive at your outpost, as Madred can't really help solve all that many missions (with the noted exception of Bioweapon Ruse). Madred's INTEGRITY is atrocious at a 1, while the CUNNING is above average at 8. His STRENGTH is nothing special, but Madred isn't really a fighter. He's more of a specialist.

Combos:

Madred + Gul Madred: Use Gul Madred to download Torture and Madred to drain those points away.

Madred + Elim: Use Elim to download Interrogation and Madred to earn you some easy points (now that's what I call flexible).
