Matriarchal Society
by Sheri Pocilujko So you walk into your gaming store to play a few games with a buddy and look around and notice something missing. You head on over to a hotel to play in a tournament and still there's something missing. You spend 4 days at a convention and still, something is missing. No, it's not your deck, it's females! Ever notice how the ratio of men to women is huge? Ever notice most women are just there to support someone else and rarely play? Ever notice how most women taught a demo of one of the card games rarely comes back to play? Ever notice how most women say they collect and not play because the gaming environment is: "Not for them." ?? Maybe it's time to change all that! Join Matriarchal Society! Matriarchal was a group started to help combat some of the gender barriers found in the gaming community. Male opponents who storm away from the table mad they "lost to a girl", Volunteers who unkowningly try and "dumb down" the game to females they teach, women who just don't feel comfortable surrounded by dozens of men at a tournament or walking into a gaming store, these were all reasons why this group was created. Many volunteers and promoters of games have often tried to figure out answers to these problems. With the help of feedback from those who constantly work to get more players, let alone more women, and from women themselves we're hoping to find those solutions. In many areas you'll see 4 out of 8 players in a tournament are women and in others you never get any. Why that is and what can be done about it is why we're here! Please note that Matriarchal Society is not for women only. Men and women together discuss what happens in their area, how they introduce/find new women players, how they keep those women players, and the different strategies involved.
