La Forge Maneuvers

Have you ever had a sudden insight or made a brilliant move that won you the game? These are the essence of La Forge Maneuvers…

I was running my Romulan "tripper" deck--it locks down homeworlds by using
Plans of the Tal Shiar to attempt any homeworld...where I trip a Duonetic
Field Generator + Harvester Virus + New Essentialists.  A Sheliak and/or
Dal'Rok can be added if DS9 is in play...the deck really destroys the
Bajorans!  At Origins over 10 rounds (team play and the open) I played
against FIVE Bajoran decks (four with orbs).  No one ever got an orb...!

In this case my opponent was playing a dual headquarters Romulan mission
solver with a treachery theme.  We duplicated Romulus, Wolf 359, and another
mission.  I tripped my combo at Romulus to lock down his play
advantage...figuring via AMS I have a chance to stay ahead (he used RRDs to
get captains...).  But I had to do what I could to slow him down.  He seeded
Wormhole Negotiations and I'm looking for 55 quick points (with Mission
specialists).  We both put our outpost at Wolf 359...he tents for the Bynars
and uses his Missions specialists (+ someone else I think) to steal my
mission...(only Ferengi Ingenuity was there).  I put a Cytherians at one of
his Neutral Zone missions (universal replacements) and need to get back in
the game if I was going to keep up after the theft.  Hit my self-seeded
Barclay's for 10 then tried the Neutral Zone (going through one of HIS
Borg Ships with a Temporal Vortex).  I even thought about STP'ing the Apnex
and Tallera to avoid the possibility of the writ, but saw no place for Brunt
to report.  Next turn he grinned, built the Neutral Outpost (right in the
Neutral Zone to add insult to injury) and downloaded Brunt.  I accepted the
risk, knew the consequences, and lost the regional!!  And laughed.

La Forge Maneuvers can be sent to editor@wnohgb.com. We are also looking for a new LFM banner for the top of this page, as our previous banner was lost in the Geocities screwup and Spock has no artistic ability whatsoever.
