All I need is 5 points
Tournament Report-Betazed Rebellion 3/31/01

by Brian Harcourt

Round one vs. Paul (aka Plex)
Ironically, Paul and I were playing with a very similar spaceline. I believe only 3 missions were not duplicated.  It made for an interesting game as we built our crews and went on the attempts. It all came down to how many dilemmas were under each mission, and whether or not the person dared to attempt any of the missions that were duplicated. Since my main missions were ones that were duplicated, I made sure to pass whenever I got the chance, and only put a wall or two that I knew I'd be able to pass with ease when I attempted.  Things got off to a good start, I was speedily reporting Androids and personnel for free, and tented for The Traveler: Trancendence as early as possible, which had a big impact on the speed of my deck. He started off by attempting Investigate Sighting II, gaining 10 points from Barclay's Protomorphosis Disease.  He then got stopped by a Maglock, and that left me with a chance to go in and solve the mission,
I did so and the score was 40-10. I then proceeded to complete Explore Typhon Expanse II and Covert Installation II for the win.
Final score=100-10  Round one 2(+90)

Round two vs. John
John was playing a Dominion deck, I'm assuming it was based on battle, with Founders and white-support personnel, but I never got to battle against him because he never wormholed me to the Gamma Quadrant during our game. I reported personnel for free and ships, got a crew ready fairly quickly, played Senior Staff Meetings on IS2 and ETE2 in order to minimize the effect that the dilemmas would have on my crew. I then proceeded to attempt Covert Installation II for the win; as it turned out, Hide and Seek stopped my one Engineer in the crew and gave John the chance to gain some points before I completed CI2 the next turn.  He attempted and completed Intelligence Operation with HQ:Secure Homeworld for 40 points, makes me wish I had used a different dilemma combo there instead, which I think in retrospect would have given me
the full 100-0 win.  I didn't, so he earned 40 points. The next turn I completed CI2 for the win with my unstopped Engineer and personnel.
Final Score=100-40  Round two 4(+150)

Round three vs. Steve (aka Kor)
Steve was playing a HOTE/DRGS/62nd Rule Ferengi mission deck. I'm not going to go into how it works because, frankly I'm still confused by it;-) But, to make a long story short, he got off to a good start, downloading Barry Waddle, tribbles, etc at an incredible speed. I was matching him for speed, but he was getting more points off of missions after HOTE went into effect. I barely managed to squeeze out 10 points after completing four missions.  Steve won in the end with a 100-10 win for him, that pretty much sealed his victory of the Tournament.
Final Score(10-100)
Round three 4(+60)

Round Four vs. Chris (aka Brak)
Chris had a Fed AMS which operated on getting out as many AMS for his missions as soon as possible and start attempting, in order to gain as many points from only 2 missions, 3 at  the most.  I started attempting missions, before I knew it was 60-0 me. He was able to complete one mission and gain 50 points from missions and a Cytherians trip. I ended up winning after completing Covert Installation 2.
Final Score=100-50.
Round four 6(+110)

Round five vs. Jason
This had to be the most interesting and fun game of the entire tournament. It all came down to the last turn, it could have easily gone either way. I got off to a slower start then usual, which gave Jason time to start cargo runs to his Nor. He was playing a Fed mission solver using a Nor and Cargo Bay for cargo running draws to help speed up his deck.  All that I can really remember from this game has to be the last 10 minutes, when we were both close to winning; he had 95 points and I had 65. My next mission was going to be Compromised Mission, he knew I would be able to pass it, even with the Q-flash swap.  He went into the Gamma Quadrant; yes we had a little of everything in this game, I hope he remembers more about it then I do to write a report ;-).  He beamed his entire crew down, attempted, many got stopped by a hide and seek, one was stopped by Altonian Brain teaser, and one was killed by a Berserk Changeling.  That gave me the final opportunity to complete Compromised Mission after having Fightin' Words
out, Temporal Rift on my ship(I had already discarded STP before, and no AU door in hand), killing off my personnel with Aphasia, regenerating them and reporting them once again.  Needless to say, I was thankful when he couldn't get past Berserk Changeling.
I solved Compromised Mission for the win and took 2nd place in the tournament.
 Final Score=100-95.
Total cumulative score=8(+115)

I received a 100,000 Tribble clone foil and 2 packs of Mirror, Mirror. I was happy with it,
it was a very-well run tournament and everyone had a good time as far as I could see.
I'd like to thank Chris Brennan(Rom) for holding the tournament, and for rushing over to
answer our rules questions, even when he was having trouble finding a way to get around people to get to us;-)
Thanks again Chris, you definitely deserve a good rest this weekend;-)
Good tournament to all, and to all a good night.
