Tournament Report: Colorado Warp Speed (Constructed)
by William Springer

Weekend tournaments weren't enough for us…now we're playing in the middle of the week! :-)  Due to a distributor screwup my boxes hadn't arrived, so Tuesday I went down to the local store and bought a box, opened it up, and threw together a Vidiian warp speed deck.  My missions were Assist Coperative, Salvage Operation, and Reinitialize Warp Reaction; I seeded a Vidiian Outpost, Assign Mission Specialists, and Seven of Nine.

Game 1: vs Daniel Morel
Dan is a new player who I believe just learned to play this week.  He's also using a Vidiian deck, IIRC, but he's a little slow to attempt.  I break through Assist for 40, then move over and solve Salvage for 30 for the win.  70-0

Game 2: vs Mark Brockway
Mark is playing, IIRC, a Federation deck with some Kazon mixed in.  I have some bad luck this game….I can't seem to draw any leadership and end up losing everybody to the one dilemma that requires it, then lose another crew to a kazon bomb.  I do solve my first mission, but without Seven of Nine, and Mark gets 2 missions for 80.  0 (-50)  Total 2 (+20)

Game 3: vs Katherine Morel
Sheesh, 3 opponents I haven't played against before….anyway, she's playing a speedy Federation deck with report-with-crew at the Caretaker's Array.  Now, in my deck I have 2 Lower Decks, a Ready Room Door, and 3 copies of the Vidiian that downloads Lower Decks.  Guess how many of them I caught?  That's right, none. :-p  Without the Lower Decks out I couldn't pass some of the dilemmas (ie Spatial Rift) and Katherine won by 25.  Total 2 (-5)

Game 4: vs Nathan Dorn
Had a brief argument over Spatial Rift…for some reason 4 or 5 of the people I've played against since Voyager released have thought that the first part doesn't stop you.  Anyway, I won that argument and solved two missions to win by 35, putting me back in positive differential.  Total 4 (+30)

Game 5: vs Michael Morris
Haven't played against Michael in a while (or Nathan, for that matter), but he's playing a very interesting deck.  I go first for the 2nd time this tournament (never went first last tournament!) and then on his first turn he drops 3 Talaxians and 2 Bothan Vessels!  He's got an armada on the way to my OP, but I draw 2 officers EXACTLY when I need them to pass Crisis.  I move over to Salvage and attempt; if I get stopped I'm in trouble, but I break through to win by 75.  6 (+105)

Game 6: vs Matt Blackwell
Regular readers of my TRs will know that I've only beaten Matt at Star Trek once in the last year, at the warp speed sealed last weekend.  Anyway, he's got another one of those Caretaker Speed decks.  Luckily for me he spends some time building up.  I go through Assist Cooperative and solve for 40, but I don't have a ship out yet.  He solves his OP mission, moves over to his space mission, and attempts…but he doesn't have Anthropology!  My turn, I report a ship, move over, and solve Salvage Operation for the win.  I had a Distortion of the S/T Continuum in hand, but oddly enough I never used it the entire tournament.  Total: 8 (+145)

Mark and Matt are still ahead of me, so I end up taking 3rd out of 13.  Next tournament will be a Warp Speed sealed at Attactix on Sunday.

// Note: no TR for that one, I'm afraid, but I managed to take 3rd place AGAIN, with Josh Colwell coming in first
