FreedomCon Voyager Warp Speed Sealed Deck Report
by John

I came to FCon for SWCCG, but hoped to get some Trek gaming in as well. I
did get the pleasure of meeting Ian Vincent who went on to win the big Trek
tournament, but he looked at the game I was playing and told me to stick to
Star Wars. I'm sorry I can't remember whom I played on Thursday morning,
but he was a very nice fellow and even lent me some cards for my Romulan
deck. I know he's from Edmonton, Alberta and I'd like to return his
cards to him. Anyway the timing of Wars vs. Trek was bad for someone who
wanted to play both, so I stuck with Wars. The one event I did get to play
in was a Voyager Warp Speed Sealed Deck event. Around 7 pm on Saturday 7 of
us got together for some SD action.

I got 3 packs of Voyager along with my starter and started building my
deck. Got nothing terribly special in them. Managed to get 3 Kazon
Collectives but only 1 Maje and 1 other from that sect. So I pull together
my pile and play my first game against John Corbet

Game 1 vs. John Corbet

John had just come off his tough loss against Ian Vincent in the FreedomCon
finals. He did manage to pull both the Doctor and his Evil Equinox clone
from his starter and packs. I got 3 Voyager packs along with my starter for
better compatibility but got nothing really special. I seed 3 missions, 2
spaces and a planet I think. I have like 8 dilemmas to work with including
a pair of spatial rifts that just wreck in sealed. Anyway, we just keep
reporting people and going at missions for a while. Later I think he
wanders over and blows my ship up over 2 turns and I have to rebuild. He is
still stuck behind my dilemmas and I manage to solve my outpost mission
just before time is called to get a win. TW 30-0

Game 2 vs. ????

Sorry I don't remember who the heck I played this game but it was very
similar to last game except one of my dilemmas was a double of a planet and
he had 2 space mission so that was a bust. Once again spatial rift stopped
him cold. But once again my ship (I think it was a Vidian Scout Vessel both
times) ended up at the business end of his weapons array and went "boom!" This time
I could not crack through the dilemmas as well and at the end of 30 minutes
the score had not changed and it was a 0-0 true tie.

Game 3 vs. Deanna Belt

Well this time I added Blue alert to my seed cards so I might be able to
land to avoid the beatdowns I had gotten in space. Unfortunately is was not
to be for me as the spaceline worked out with a nice big space gap and
after I could get through to my outpost mission I headed down the line but
once again ran into more aggression and couldn't get away in time. Finally
someone made it through my Spatial Rifts and once those were worked over in
was not too long before I ended with a loss.

It was fun time as was all of FCon and I hope that I get a chance to go to
such a con again. After game 3 we went to the HQ area and presented awards
for Trek YJ and JK and just called it quits since there were only 7 of us
in the tournament anyway. Afterwards I stayed for the long haul and played
some pickup Wars games and watched till Bastian Winkelhaus was crowned the
FreedomCon SWCCG champion. So thereafter me and my crew hit the road and
made it back to Ohio in 11 hours, all in all one of the best trips I have
ever taken.

Thanks for reading

John
