Holodeck Adventures Observations
by Dr. Telek R'Mor Played in a tournament last night. Not everyone had gotten Holodeck Adventures yet, but enough did (especially my opponents, it seemed ;-)) where I could make some notice and see how it's changed the game a bit: -- Holoprogram: 221B Baker Steet is HUGE, but not because of Sherlock Holmes. Holmes is nice for like a turn or two, but over time he sort of just becomes useless (also, I'd rather use a KFC or get out a better personnel in place of my early card draw). I only found myself being able to use him every now and then: you basically have to play slow player vs. fast player for it to be effective, which isn't often. No, the reason it is so good is because of Madam Pulaski. In one game, I duped on three missions and if I hadn't lost points early on to a Senior Staff Meeting which was Feedback Surged, I'd have won in two missions. Same thing for another, where we duped on three. She's just absolutely fantastic, an easy twenty points early on against the right opponent. -- If you don't run Borg Nanoprobes, Your Galaxy Is Impure is going to sock you. Hard. Lots of combos ran it, either with before Scientific Method or Executive Authorization. Nanoprobes was more or less a must (that or just double redundancy). -- Repetition in dilemmas combo was nice. Most players seemed to run either Diplomacy (with the Cyrus Redblock, that's huge), SCIENCE (with YIIG, though, Nanoprobes will just have to become a necessity to stop that, and, again Redblock), or low INTEGRITY (set up with Q Gets The Point/killer/Pale Moonlight). -- Anti-Time Anaomly wasn't that devastating for a Hologram deck. All you have to do is just Space/Time Portal your ship back to hand. No one ran Examine Singularity, either. -- Cyrus Redblock. Absolutely game breaking in so many cirucmstances. Makes two of the best dilemmas more powerful than ever. -- Didn't see too much of Holoprograms. A lot of them are either deck specific or too general. Only 221B was used, but I saw a lot of people got little use from Holmes (though, Pulaski, like I said, was soooo useful). -- Crell Moset and Vic Fontaine were very nice, especially Vic. Large decks loved him since they could just hit dilemmas and then proceed to download what they needed to pass it. (Used also by a Vidiian player running Organ Theft.) That's about it. I know a lot more changed, but that's the primary stuff. Didn't see much "revival" of older affiliations (Dominion, Cardassians), but that's probably because most players wanted to stick with their older decks. (We had Warp Speed last week.) Next week could be more interesting... -DTRM
