Colorado EPP Warp Speed Sealed
by William "Spock" Springer

Well, since the highest-ranked sealed deck player in the world was visiting, we had to have a sealed deck tournament!  I'm not sure what it says about the sanity of Star Trek players, but 7 of the 8 people who played in tonight's Enhanced Premiere Warp Speed tournament also played in the standard constructed earlier today.  I get the Beverly and Wil EPP and pull 3 engineers, including Geordi.  Unfortunately I don't get another diplomacy, which I just know is gonna cause me some trouble…  I do get 8 dilemmas, and my missions are Explore Black Cluster II, Relief Mission II, and Plunder Site.  My outpost seed is IKC Vor'cha.

Game 1: vs Matt Blackwell
I get out 4 people and attempt my outpost mission on the second turn…and get blown away by a Borg Ship.  Ooops…  He hits my Alien Parasites combo; unfortunately it doesn’t occur to me to put him in the path of the Borg, and I try clearing out one of my missions instead.  I start rebuilding and he moves back to his outpost; I think I fence him in with a Q-net.  Anyway, I score Black Cluster and Relief Mission for 45, he scores REM Fatigue for 5.  2 (+40)

Game 2: vs Olav Rokne aka the Pendari Champion
Guess what he seeds under my outpost mission?  Yup, Shaka. :-p  With no way to pass that, all I can do it try to blow up his stuff, but he's careful not to leave ships undocked and I'm never able to.  I solve both of my planet missions, then can do nothing except draw-go while he clears out his missions for the win.  0 (-20), Total 2 (+20)

Game 3: vs Nathan Lundquist
For some reason Nathan and I always play in sealed…I have more trouble with him than any other opponent.  This game was the exception, though, as I break through his dilemmas without too much trouble.  He had just one planet mission, meaning misseeds at one space mission; he sent down Klingons one at a time to die until being stopped (so to speak) by my Scow combo.  I solve my main two missions and pick up another 10 points from dilemmas for the game.  2 (+55), total 4 (+75)

Eric Nelson (Gazi) beat Olav and is currently undefeated; however, Roger is shuffling the cards around a bit to avoid duplicate pairings, so as it happens I never play Eric.

Game 4: vs Jefferson Powers
I Scan and Full Planet Scan my missions, so I know what to expect.  Jefferson goes after his outpost mission and is 2 integrity short of passing Alien Parasites; I move his crew over to one of my planets, clear out some of the dilemmas, and cloak the ship.  He plays more stuff and I solve two missions for the win, never needing the Temporal Rift in my hand.  2 (+50), total 6 (+125)

Game 5: vs Nathaniel White (Ens Red Shirt)
I get out Red Alert, so we're both able to drop our hands each turn.  I start clearing out a planet mission and he comes over and starts shooting, damaging one of my little ships.  I bring more ships and damage his ship.  Like the other Nathan, he tries to redshirt past my dilemmas at his planet mission, losing multiple Klingons in the process.  He brings his damaged ship over, does some beaming in preparation to tow my scow, and I rift his ship, then solve two missions for the win.  2 (+45), total 8 (+170)

Game 6: vs Katherine Morrel
I finally go first (3rd time in 10 games!) and Scan and Full Planet Scan on the first turn, seeing several scows and some medical stuff.  Since I draw Geordi early, getting past the scows is a piece of cake, and I solve both and pick up an extra 10 points from her Plague Ship and REM Fatigue before she manages to finish clearing out a mission.  2 (+55), total 10 (+225)

Eric lost his last 3 games, and Olav is at around 10 (+175), so I win the tournament on differential, choosing a Distortion of the Space/Time Continuum foil and pulling absolutely nothing worth mentioning in my packs.  We should get the Canadians down here more often; they're lots of fun. :-)
