The Ninja and the Doctor Review:
Bajoran Resistance Cell

by The Ninja Scott and Dr. Telek R'Mor

As you may have heard, The Ninja Scot and Dr. Telek R'Mor have decided to do a one-page review of every card in Holodeck Adventures.  That's right, all 131 cards!  Better set aside lots of reading time for this…  (DTRM is doing evens and TNS is doing odds)  The opinions, of course, are those of the authors :-)

47) Bajoran Resistance Cell – Objective – Seeds or plays on table.  Once each turn, your Resistance personnel may report for free to your (BAJORAN) facility or ship or to any planet.  Also, your Bajoran espionage cards may not be nullified.  Once each turn, you may download a Bajoran espionage card to one of your missions (limit one per mission), then draw two cards if you have at least two Resistance personnel in play.

Not that the Bajorans needed any more places that they can report for free but this one is much more mobile; in fact it can overcome quadrant restrictions – Bajoran Resistance Fighters in the DQ unite!  Add to it a fairly easy extra card drawing mechanism and you have some extra fun for the Nose-Ridges.

First, the Resistance personnel of the Bajoran people (all 12 of them, including two different versions of the lady Kira) are actually pretty useful to begin with – Besides the aforementioned Kiras, you get nice sources of Medical from Lupaza and Surmak Ren, extra Science from Orta (not to mention the –1 Strength attribute to your opponents in battle), Engineer from Razka Karn, Tahna Los and the transplanted DQ Tabor.  In fact, when you look at all the people, from the Chamber of Ministers to First Shakaar’s special skill and now the Resistance Cell, there’s so few people that can’t report for free that you’re able to devote more to card drawing to get those people out.

Second function is a deceptively helpful/hurtful clause, making your Espionage not be nullified by anyone.  While it’s helpful when you play the only Espionage the Bajorans have (Bajoran on Cardassian, naturally) that it’s not countered (which coincidentally can be played for free on a mission where a Resistance personnel is located), it means that you can’t counter it either to continually Espionage a mission for the last function on the card.

The aforementioned skill, which allows you to draw 2 cards for downloading said Espionage onto one of your missions as well as having at least two personnel with Resistance in play.  Think about all the missions that the Bajorans have which also have Cardassian icons on them, all 12 of them (1 in the Delta Quadrant, 1 in the Mirror Quadrant, 2 in the Gamma Quadrant, 8 in the Alpha Quadrant), not to mention their own Homeworld as valid targets which combined with Characterize Neutrino Emissions and Acquire Illicit Explosives, are all in the Bajor Region.

It’s inherent free reporting, it’s practically free card drawing, it doesn’t take your card play, it can happen whenever on your turn to draw cards and it can’t be countered.  What more do you want for a Bajoran player?

Combos – First Minister Shakaar + Chamber of Ministers + Bajoran Resistance Cell + Bajoran Shrine + Morn – 3 places to report for free, drawing a minimum of 5 cards a turn, capable of being set up on turn 1 and doesn’t require your card play.

Combos – Kira (Cardassian mode) + Cloned Kira (Cardassian mode) – Extra two card draws for the Cardassians (who are going to have the Cardassian icons anyway).  Also related to this – Tabor + Kira for Federation drawing in the Delta or Alpha Quadrant.
