The OctOgre Soapbox
- by Spock

Hmm…no comments on last month's issue, either by email - editor@wnohgb.com - or on the BBS.  Don't tell me nobody had an opinion?

Having been told that Inquest #66 reviewed WNOHGB, I picked up a copy.  Here's what they had to say:

Quick, find a Klingon card with high cunning, treachery and greed. You can't? Well,
come to this monthly online magazine's site and check out their wow-neato-cool, easy-to-use searchable database of Star Trek cards.  While you're there, take a look at their strategy articles, commentary and other columns.

Unfortunately, that was the only thing of interest in the entire magazine, making me wish I'd just had someone copy that page for me instead of wasting 5 bucks on the magazine.  If you were thinking of getting it, don't.  Save your money for a pack of Reflections instead.

Speaking of Reflections, it seems to be pretty popular.  You can see they've reprinted the most requested cards…Borg Queen, Future Enterprise, USS Defiant, D'Deridex Advanced, Borg Ship, The Great Hall, Plans of the Tal Shiar..  of course, there's a couple of weird selections people have already pointed out.  First, where's the Ent-E?  Don't tell me that wasn't requested quite a bit!  Second, how many of you requested the premiere Sisters of Duras?  Now, if it was the Fajo SoD, that I could understand… ;-)
While I don't intend to collect this set, that's due solely to the sheer cost involved…with 100 foils, assuming perfect distribution, it would take over 3 boxes (at $80/box) to get the set, not including the Seven of Nine case-toper.  Ouch.  I do expect to be using Reflections for prize support though, and don't be surprised if you see a few shiny cards slipping into my future decks.  (Possibly even my Tribble decks, if I get ahold of one of those box toppers ;-))  From what I hear, there's a pretty good mix of cards in the packs, with people even pulling a lot of Enhanced First Contact premiums…and of course, there's the inevitable lucky player who pulls an URF and a non-foil Future Enterprise in the same pack ;-)

We're a bit short on articles this month…where have all our writers gone?  We're looking for tournament reports, decks, strategies, opinions…send 'em all (spellchecked, please!) to submissions@wnohgb.com for publication!  Speaking of needing more writers, we also need someone to do some typing in order to add more options to our database…knowledge of Perl a plus!  Applications should go to editor@wnohgb.com.

Some of you may be wondering about the WNOHGB Tournament Guide.  It's still alive, but in altered form.  Rather than printing it in magazine format and offering it through wnohgb.com, we're now planning to print it in book format and offer it through amazon.com.  We're still picking up authors for that, so it may or may not materialize this year.  Stay tuned for more details.

Oh, and if you were wondering about the title of this month's article (The OctOgre Soapbox) - believe me, if you didn't get it, you don't want to know. ;-)
