Dabo!!!
by livingston the fish
One of the most interesting cards to come out of Rules of Acquisitions is Dabo. If you’re like me, you get a little itch for some gambling once in a while. Follow my simple advice (which actually works, unlike those "Win at Lotto" books) and you’ll be able to play Dabo without losing your shirt. You’ll be able to score some free points or barring that, get some extra draws. Many have had games where they need a few extra points to win or an extra draw to get a needed counter or skill. Dabo, when set up with another card from First Contact, Remodulation, can do all this practically free.
[Interrupt] Remodulation
Nullifies Adapt: Modulate Shields OR "Remodulates" your hand. Discard one or two cards and draw an equal amount from bottom of your draw deck.
Ok, ignore the first part of Remodulation, unless the Borg are hunting you. Take a look at the second function of this card. First, the card lets you discard one or two cards. Great!! You sudden have the "cash" you need to take a spin at the Dabo wheel. If you discard two cards, you get three cards in your discard pile, the two cards you discarded, plus the Remodulation you played. That’s exactly the maximum you can wager on Dabo each turn. Can’t decide what to Remodulate? Use the other Remodulations you’re likely to have in your hand. As if that wasn’t enough, Remodulation is an Interrupt card, so your card play isn’t taken up. If you get a good probe for Dabo, your total earnings are 6 points, two card draws and you still get to play a card that turn.
One minor draw back to having all those Remodulations in your deck is that it isn’t a good probe for Dabo. To circumvent this drawback, you can use Quark’s Bar to download Leeta and Quark. This will allow you to use the "otherwise" function of Dabo. Why Leeta over the other dabo girls? She can special download Dabo. Sure, if you mis-probe, you won’t get 6 points, but you will get an additional card draw, which, unlike Kivas Fajo-Collector, won’t take up your card play. Do this minor set up before you start playing Dabo, and you’ll not have to worry about losing your wallet at the Dabo tables.
Hope to see you at the Dabo wheel, and bring lots of cash!
