Trouble with Tribbles Card Review #35 - Organian Peace Treaty (#17,C)
by Sergei Rachmaninoff This review is a quarter of the way through the set, and yes, I'm going to keep pushing my way through all 141 cards. (OK, I won't do each Tribble card three times :-) Who knows how long it takes, but I'll finish sometime... Organian Peace Treaty (Common [TT], #17)
Forgive the short length of this review (relatively, of course :-) because today's card doesn't really have that much to it, but hey, if I'm going through every card in TwT it had to come up some time :-) First, I'll say that there's absolutely no reason to seed this card using its own game text. Use that seed slot for Sherman's Peak instead, and download the Peace Treaty with it. The only possible downside would be having to seed Agricultural Assessment, but I think the benefits definitely outweigh the drawbacks. Agricultural Assessment is actually a very decent mission. Very easy and AMS-able requirements, plus two personnel you'll probably be using in an [OS] deck can solve it by themselves. It's even protected by Fair Play, even though it's probably one of the most likely missions to be duplicated. The only other drawback I could think of is that you might not be planning to use very many [OS] cards. But then, why are you using the Organian treaty? Your modern-day personnel can't use the Organian treaty to mix with [OS] personnel of the opposite affiliation, so you might as well just use the generic Federation/Klingon Treaty. But look at the benefits: You can also download Deep Space Station K-7 (if you seeded your Sherman's Peak first), and can play some of those [OS] Federation and Klingon personnel for free as well. Again, if you're using the Organian Treaty you'll be using a good deal of [OS] personnel, so this is a definite plus. The other thing: there's absolutely no reason *not* to include this card in your deck if you're planning on using Sherman's Peak. Even if you're only planning on going with Feds or Klingons, download the Treaty anyway. After all, why not? It's downloaded out of your deck before the game begins, so there's no worry about it clogging up your deck. Plus, you can use any of the [OS] personnel or ships of the opposite affiliation anyway... again, there's no drawback (one caveat with ships: you still have to have a matching personnel aboard to fly it, so keep that in mind). Or, even if you don't use it, it may confuse your opponent. Even if it doesn't, or only temporarily, it's still cost you nothing. In this respect, it's almost too bad it can't be Kevin-ed or Devil-ed: it would have the potential to draw one of these cards away from your other important events, Treaties, Horga'hns, or Wind Dancers. :-) Which brings me to one last point: you should never include more than one of these in any given deck. Why? The only way it can be nullified is with a Mercy Kill on your own Organian Peace Treaty. The only possible circumstance I could see that being useful in is some unrealistic, convoluted scenario (e.g., for some reason you want to have two separate away teams on a planet, so you need your personnel to be incompatible; of course, in this case it's quite costly as you have to spend a card play re-playing the Treaty) The final verdict: Quite simple. If you're using Sherman's Peak, download the Treaty, regardless of whether or not you're planning on using it. If not, you're probably not using enough [OS] personnel to justify it over the regular Federation/Klingon Treaty. There shouldn't be much debate at all when thinking about whether or not to include this card.
