Doppelganger
by Spock If you have a Doppelganger, chances are it quickly
ended up in your binder. I've been playing in tournaments regularly
since mid-1997 and have NEVER seen this card played. And why bother
to use it? Even pre-FC, it was unlikely you'd end up playing with
the exact same personnel as your opponents, and now we have a full 8 affiliations
to choose from. But, Decipher's new tournament format is finally
bringing us a use for this card..
![]() One thing you can really say about Mirror Mirror tournaments is that it's an extremely limited format. Only two "affiliations" are allowed, and most players seem to be using Terran Empire, so you'll be seeing the same dozen personnel over and over. Now, what's the best way to take advantage of this? In a TE vs TE matchup, chances are both sides will be playing cards pretty quickly. Wait until you both have a nice-sized crew out and are about to start attempting missions. Then slap down a Doppelganger (tenting as needed) and move your ship full of people to each location where he has personnel (most of them should be at the HQ and Halkan Planet) The timing is important here; remember that on his turn your opponent can use Doppelganger to play the same trick on you! With any luck, however, this will slow him down enough for you to get an easy win. And what about the Klingon/Cardassian Alliance? Well, if you decide to use them and play against another KCA deck, this will work for you as well, although maybe not quite as well. KCA is less popular and has fewer "must-have" personnel, but you can probably kill off Worf, Odo, Bareil, and the Intendant, as well as some "dual-affiliated" personnel such as Ezri and the Mr Ferengi. Of course, if you really want to hurt the KCA, you could always try trapping them with Navigate Plasma Storms… Comments? Post on the New WNOHGB BBS! |
