The K. Files #2: Long Live the Queen [2E]
by Thomas K. Solway

I'm sorry for the absence of an article last month, but I had to move, and as we all know that can take a lot out of you. Nonetheless, I return with the second edition of The K. Files.

As soon as I saw the spoiler for Call to Arms, I knew that the Borg would be a force to contend with. Their power is in their limitless knowledge; and this deck reflects that. They are able to overcome nearly every obstacle using their immense experience.

The Key to this deck is the Borg Queen; as it should be in a Borg deck. You will never have to worry about having a skill that the Borg could normally possess. This Queen, while she is facing a dilemma, may exchange one Borg from your discard pile for another in the away team. The only catch is that you need to have a Borg with the skill you need in the discard pile. Well that is where interlinking comes in. If you don't have the proper drone in the discard pile, use one of the interlinking drones in the away team to interlink until you discard the one you need. There is no limit to the number of times you may interlink with a single drone. Usually you only need to mass interlink once in a game, you should have enough drones in the discard pile after that to provide a good skill stock.

The one difficulty is that the Queen has to be in the attempt and unstopped to do this. Thus, you want to keep her functioning at all costs. That is why there are Escapes and Adapts in the deck. Kelvan Show of Force, Drumhead, and Misguided Activist are all dilemmas you have to worry about. Yet with the Adapts you should only have to worry about them once. Salvaging the Wreckage is there only as a safety measure. I've yet to actually use one in my games. This deck is by no means complicated, it just busts through skill related dilemmas.

I have already had more than a few people say to me this deck is broken. Yet as I always say, nothing is broken if there is a card that counters it. One Retaliation will hose this deck, not to mention all the multitude of other horrible fates that may befall a personal in the current environment. Alas Poor Queen, for thy fate is as uncertain as a random selection.

Jolan Tru,
Thomas K. Solway
