The Ferengi
by the Green Knight

The Ferengi: small, evil, bribing, dabo; you name it, they can do it, for a price of course. How do I integrate Ferengi into my area's metagame, you ask? Well, there are a number of ways that have really been shown since the affiliation's start at the end of November last year. Dabo, Gamma Quadrant (via 75th Rule), bribing the older affiliations to have a hand at their missions, exchanging latinum for points, card draws, etc. Now, in my area, we have quite the number of speed decks, usually Federation or Romulan PNZs that can complete their one or two missions in less then 8 turns. How would the Ferengi be able to catch up to that speed?

The Ferengi have now shown themselves to be an affiliation to be respected. You could have an armada of B'rels to go destroy your opponent's outposts and ships in probably 7 turns, using the Tower of Commerce to report your personnel for free and spacedoor for downloading the ships. Or, you could just go with the straight mission solving. You would need to focus on two missions that require the least amount of personnel to complete, so you take a look at your missions that are worth a lot of points but require personnel that can be easily obtained by the 6th turn. Tulaberry Wine Negotiations with its 45 (add 10 points for the 75th rule) points looks like a good one to have, then you could use Bribery at a Colony Preparation and sit at a Colony for the rest of the game, racking up the points with all of those CIVILIANS that you reported for free at the Tower; remember, 2 points for CIVILIANS means 2 times the fun and reduces the amount of turns you'd need in order to win the game.

You could even just stay in the Alpha Quadrant. You say that you're too scared because of all the big ships from the Romulans and Klingons are gonna get ya? Well, don't be, as you've got the ability (via B'rels) to laugh as your opponent tries to hunt you down and you score points by playing Dabo at Quark's as well as completing Wormhole Negotiations and Espionage Mission, each with Bribery and you've got the game in your hands.

So, whether you like to venture into the Gamma Quadrant and explore the Dominion's space, or stay in the Alpha Quadrant and bribe your day away, you have many, many choices that you can use with the Ferengi. They're just waiting for you to look at them and use them in your tournament-winning deck. Good luck with the Ferengi this year and make sure to put that latinum to good use. ;-)
