We Want Some Federation Firepower…
by Michael Walk

With all of these newer sets coming out were seeing some pretty heavy toys come out.  For instance the Dominion Battleship has outrageous stats, a whooping 10-11-12!  Ouch!  If the Enterprise meets this monster in a dark alley she’s a goner!  It’s not just the Dominion either, the Romulans and Cardassians both have advanced ships with advanced stats.  Regency 1 anyone?  Tough staffing requirements but triple-digit stats across the board.  Even those darn D’Kora’s are downright diabolical.

So where does that leave the Federation?  The Enterprise line is decent, and the Defiant-Class vessels are sweet, but I like the Feds and I want them to be strong…to quote a Pakled.

Now, when I was younger I used to love watching TNG.  Ship to ship battles were my favorite dating back to the days of Battlestar Galatica and Buck Rodgers.  And how can anyone not like the flagship of the Federation, traveling through the galaxy taking on Romulans and Borg alike.

One of those episodes that I’m sure everyone has seen a few times is Yesterday's Enterprise.  This episode featured an Alternate Timeline in which the Federation was at war with the Klingons.  At one point our beloved bald man of justice, Captain Picard, enters a “Military Log” into the computer, for the Warship Enterprise.  And while she looked the same as her sleek counterpart, she was beefy as well, standing up to 3 Klingon battle cruisers!  And while the final outcome of this alternate Enterprise is not known we can bring her back as a Dream Card.  With a matching commander as well, in the form of Captain Picard himself!

Lets look at the Warship Enterprise first.  A picture of the ship from that episode should go nicely on the top half.  The lore could read something like ‘In an alternate timeline, the Federation was at war with the Klingons.  The flagship of the Federation was build to fight and it can withstand heavy punishment.’  All right now, I know the lore could use some work, but it’s not as bad as some of them out there!

The Warship Enterprise is a Galaxy Class starship with an AU icon.  It requires 1 command, 1 staff and 1 AU icon to fly her.  She has a tractor beam but no holodeck.  This is because it is a battleship built for war, not luxury.  I could see a holodeck being justified for a training tool, but not on this card.  As for stats, I like 9-10-11.  A bit modest but fair nowadays.

Now how about her matching commander, Captain Picard.  Why has there never been a Captain Picard card?  Did we not see Captain Picard every week?  There’s even a Captain Bashir card, for crying out loud!  And since the premiere edition cards don’t do justice to the cards that we have now, I think we can make a pretty good personnel for the Federation.

Lets start with the picture.  A good shot of him with that white phaser belt wrapped around him would be nice.  As for the lore, ‘Captain of the Warship Enterprise, Jean-Luc Picard, once encountered the USS Enterprise-C during the bitter war with the Klingons.  He fought until the very end.’  He’ll have an AU icon and a Command star.  His classification is Officer.  His skills could be Leadership x2, Diplomacy, Computer skill, SECURITY and Honor.  His stats are 9-8-7.  Hey, if everyone else can get a stat boost like they did in Blaze of glory, then he can get a stat boost now!  He will of course get a special download.  It can only be \/ that’ll be the day.  This special download could nullify outgunned and give additional bonuses for going toe-to-toe against multiple ships, or something like that.  I’m not worried about it since we don’t even know what a Timepod ring does yet.

So that’s my little dream card idea.  It’s not much considering the world we live in now.  I’m sure Voyager will be nice and the Borg ships in the collective are probably going to be great.  Even though the Federation has some attack problems, we still could use a little beef.
