The People's Glorious Socialist Democratic and Free Nation of Olavistan
by Olav "Pendari Champion" Rokne

People are always asking me: "Olav, why are you a Communist?"
"Well, it's simple" I reply, "Communism is about the equal distribution of resources among a national population, right?  And treasure is a resource. Well, Time Magazine declared Britney Spears a 'national treasure'--and for obvious reasons I would like to see the equal distribution of Britney to all."  People react to this as if I were a pedophile. "I don't think you understand," I continue, "I mean that I want Britney to be equally divided up and mailed to people in small envelopes."  It's funny how many Communist party memberships this simple explanation has sold.
CCGs in general are everything that communism stands against.  Key to victory in any CCG is the acquisition of resources, and denying them from your opponent.  I often feel a bourgeois guilt about what I did to Devidian Doors in my area--truly I have been an enemy of the revolution.
As such, I often advocate the creation of local Communist Card Collectives-- groups in which no particular member owns the cards, but all participants have access to them. I have been a member of two such organizations, and both have worked well.
The first was in Edmonton.  Allen Gould, Kim (at that time Dell) Gould, Tara Dubois, Aaron Jankola, Patty Gillard and myself were (and in many ways still are) avid fans of the B-5 CCG.  We pooled all our collections, organized and filed them and had a mad old time building decks, testing out the game. Tournaments occurred where there were only two or three competitors not members of the collective. There was only one real problem; we never really thought about what would happen if the collection was stolen.  The loss of the collective's cards was the end of B-5CCG in Edmonton.  There were a few attempts to revive the game in town, but no real progress was made. I still have my deck (made with the full collective's resources) but I haven't played the game in a year now.
The second collective is the "Calgary Communist Card Club", an ST:CCG oriented collection.  As a group, we have a couple of copies of all the URs, a supply of most of the kinds of cards to build decks around and play sets of the various affiliations. It's a good system... and this time we have it kept in a safe place at most times.
