A Merry Non-Denominational Winter Solstice Holiday
by Olav "Pendari Champion" Rokne

Olav's note: As an Iconoclast, I refuse to hold anything sacred, as such, no one who reads this article has any right not to be offended by my mockery of religion, sexual mores, or the Welsh. No one is allowed to be surprised if I fail to mock any of those things either... I maintain the right to offend, but not the responsibility.

Editor's note: If this article somehow gives you the impression that Canadians can't spell..you're right! ;-)

I'm sitting in an office during that sweet week between Christmas and New Year's. The weather outside of the office is thirty three below zero Celsius (that's damned cold for all you wacky people who still use the imperial system of measurement).

The newspaper office is on the second floor of a building just above the Rose and Crown in Canmore AB, nestled high up in the Rocky Mountains, a full hour's drive away from the nearest cinema.

It's been a good December for STCCG in AB, though I won't see any of the community for the next few weeks.

After the most recent tournament (on the 26th), the players in the area and I went out to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour in the only manner which seemed appropriate-- by seeing a movie which depicts Jesus saving us... from Vampires.

If anyone has the chance to see "Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter"  I suggest that you seize that opportunity. It is truly the best film I have seen this year (2001).  The basic plot is that Vampires are killing off lesbians, and Jesus comes back to save the world through the power of his love, his knowledge of Kung-Fu and the strength of his fists.  In his wacky misadventures, Jesus is joined by a scantily clad nun, a punk rock priest, and a Mexican wrestling superstar.

Now, I just want to point out that many people have accused Canadian made cinema of being sub-par. After seeing Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, I can tell you that is not the case.  That evening was the last time many of us got to spend with Christopher Keith Munroe for a while. Chris is in a better place now... Winnipeg to be specific.

Though he was never good at STCCG, and honestly played it only occasionally, he was a pillar of our community. Being cast in a musical is the best thing that has happened to him in a long time--he will be head-lining a show that will tour western Canada for the next year or so, if you get the chance to see him please do so. And tell him that his Pakled/Mortal Q deck was a bad idea.

Over the next couple of weeks I am going to organize a trip to Colorado in February for an event that is being dubbed "Olapalooza 2002" the current plan is to rent a Windstar with five or six STCCG players and posse on down to meet Brad and the infamous Colorado Crewe.
