Crazy in Colorado I
by Nathaniel "Ens Red Shirt" White

//Editor Note: This article was moved to Viewpoints after publication.

Well after the ridiculously idiotic post of Ruling America last month, I thought it was time for a real player from America to start doing the reports not some idiot from New Jersey or Michigan or wherever, whose only purpose seems to annoy the hell out of anyone who reads their column.

Now people who know me that as a player, know that I suck at Trek big time. My Trek Constructed rating is 1499, and my sealed is a semi respectable 1570 something. I play for fun, which seems so rare today, so screw off you over-serious all or nothing New Jersey players. (You know who you are.) Anyway, I have absolutely no idea where these articles will end up, what they will talk about or how frequent they will be, plus I don’t write too much so feel free to yell at me whenever you see me. J

Well for the first article I figured I might actually do something semi-Trek related, and talk about the recent visit of the world #1 in sealed deck play, and his protégé. Olav Rokne and Eric Nielson are two of the strangest people you will ever meet. First off they are complete and total opposites. Olav is blonde and is easily the coolest acting person I have seen playing trek. He definitely acts the persona he has online, but if you get to know him he really is a great guy. He has put up with a lot from me in our encounters, up to and including losing actual people driving home one night. (Long Story about misdirection, donuts, and a big dinosaur.) He also has a decent singing voice, and on any Tuesday night he will prove it too you. (Yet another long story about driving around Calgary with a Canadian, and American and a German in search for Karaoke on a Tuesday night, "The Karaokest night of the week.")

Eric Nielson is an American living in Calgary; he is a decent player and might well be ranked higher if he lived anywhere else. You may want to check out his article In the Shadow of a Living God in this issue of WNOHGB.

Anyway, they got here early on a Wednesday morning, and I mean early. I got a call at 6 am from them to show them the way home from a local gas station. That night we went and saw a Denver Nuggets Game, after touring all the tournament venues for the coming weekend. On the next day we went to eat at a restaurant called Fazoli’s. Now if you have never heard of them, I am not surprised. It is a local chain of fast food restaurants that serve Italian food. Think Olive Garden, but fast and cheap, anyway they loved it, which really amazed me. This led to a late night stop at a Fazoli’s Saturday night after the tournament, where we ate on the lawn since the restaurant stayed open long enough to give us our food. Anyway Friday a tourney was scheduled but no one showed, Drafts don’t go over well here, but I am determined to change that. Saturday there were two tournaments, one constructed and one sealed. Sadly I missed the constructed but I heard Eric got hit with a Q-bypass deck in one of his games and forgot Writ and Brunt. Oops. I did make it to the sealed, which was Enhanced Premiere Warp Speed. I got Sons Of Mogh and built a decent klingon deck which lost to Olav, but brought Eric down due to a timed win. (Yea! Go me. J )

All in all it was a lot of fun and I hope we get to meet again.

Well if you read all that congratulations I know it was tough and it sucked but it was a start for me. Comments are welcomed on the WNOHGB BBS.
